Hungarian Coffee Cake

From the kitchen of Winifred Moody (aka Grandma Moody)

  • 1 Cup Brown Sugar (packed)
  • 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 3 cups Flour
  • 2 sticks margarine or butter.

- Mix both sugars and flour.  Melt both sticks of butter and add to mixture.  Mix until crumbly.  Take out 1 cup and set aside for topping.

- Add the following to remaining mixture:

  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon walnut extract
  • ½ teas salt

- Mix and add to already greased loaf pan.

Sprinkle mixture with cinnamon
- Add the 1 cup of topping and sprinkle with cinnamon again
- Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Optional: May add walnuts or pecans to base mixture and topping mixture.
