Mania

It is still hot and humid, but those oppressive 105 degree days have gone away.

Lance is in Philadelphia this week (the summer nationals) with a bridge client. I’m jealous. Lots of people we know are also there, and isn’t that always a fun thing? When you congregate with people somewhere away from where you normally are. The most obvious example of course is a family vacation, but bridge tournaments or work conferences have a similar feeling of fun-ness. We haven’t talked about whether or not we’re going to the fall nationals, even though we l-u-v San Francisco.

Maddux has been in our household for over three weeks now, and things are a little better. Not perfect, but better. She seems to be able to hold it through the night now, and her crate blanket is dry. She seems to know what “go potty” means when you take her outside. Still a few accidents inside. She is at Doggie Day Care during the day this week since i can’t be at home to engage her, at a place called Happy Tails. We love it! And at the end of the day, she’s too exhausted to misbehave. It’s great.

Work is insane right now. My boss left for another job, and i am now doing her job in addition to the job i already had. I’m actually not doing either job particularly well at the moment, but good enough to get by. They should start interviewing candidates very soon, and it can’t be soon enough for me. It’s been educational, interesting, and even a little fun to have a taste of this job, but it’s also been long hours, high stress, HR issues, and way more verbal discussions than i’m used to - like with two dozen people every day. I’m quite eager to get back to normal. Last week i dreamed that i was sitting in my office, and when i looked outside there was a tornado coming my way. I was panicked and tried to run but of course you slow down in dreams. I woke up with that feeling of terror spreading through my body. I have anxiety dreams sometimes, but that was my first tornado.

I’m currently reading an old favorite from my childhood – White Fang, by Jack London.  Wolves are creatures of such novelty and romance and instinct. I think Call of the Wild must be next.

I finally beat Trainyard on my iPad a couple of weeks ago – great game if you haven’t tried it. You have to give it a few levels to get you through the easy, training tutorials, and then the puzzles get really good. I have a new obsession with an iPad game called Mystery Manor. I don’t recommend starting it as you may get sucked in forever. Lance and i are also replaying the New Super Mario Bros. game.

Life is good right now. A bit hectic and busy, but who isn’t? The dogs and i are looking forward to getting Lance back.

I miss you and the dogs! Let’s go to fall nationals, assuming the schedule works out and there’s money to do it.
