Ever since i left the protected place in my parents’ home, i have been greeted with a certain bit of incredulity whenever the subject of Muppets comes up. “You don’t like the Muppets?!?” people exclaim in dismay. It’s not that i don’t like them, i just never got much exposure to them. So i don’t really “get” it – i don’t have the happy associations with childhood that other people do.
We Netflixed (isn’t it interesting how that is becoming a word, the same way “google” has become a word) a DVD of the Muppet TV show this summer, and i REALLY didn’t get it then. It was mildly entertaining, but not something where i would want to watch the entire series.
The Muppet Movie is showing at the Colony Theater for the holidays, so, on Thanksgiving Eve, we went to see it. I actually liked it! What a good story. And i really liked some of the songs, especially the “Rainbow Connection”. So, i think i’m a muppet convert now. I will never have the childhood associations, but i can appreciate them a lot better now.
Good movie.
